Dalam bahasa Inggris ada istilah penandaan
waktu untuk menandakan kapan sebuah peristiwa berlangsung, baik itu pagi,
siang, sore ataupun malam. Penandaan waktu dalam
bahasa Inggris sangat penting untuk menghindari kesalahpahaman. Di bawah ini
terdapat kata keterangan yang menandakan waktu yang digunakan dalam bahasa
Inggris :
a.m. : ante meredien (sebelum tengah hari) yaitu
dari pukul 12.01 tengah malam sampai dengan pukul 12.00 siang
p.m. : post meredien (sesudah tengah hari) yaitu
dari pukul 12.01 tengah siang sampai dengan pukul 12.00 malam
jadi bila dikatakan :
